Li Costume

Li clothing is mainly made of sea island cotton, hemp, kapok, bark fiber and silk. In ancient times, the bark of Broussonetia papyrifera or Aristolochia glabra was used as clothing materials in some places. This kind of dress material is made from the bark cut from the mountain, the outer layer of skin dregs removed by beating, the remaining fiber layer, and then soaked in purple cabbage (ash from shell firing) to dry.

Li men usually wear collarless jackets and trousers, with turbans and pheasant plumes. Women wear black round necked bodice with a lot of ornaments. The neckline is connected with white and green beads to form three sets of edges, the cuffs and hem are decorated with patterns, and the front and back bodies are decorated with small beads to form color patterns. Wear a tight, short skirt underneath. Some of them are dressed in black and blue flat collar top, with white pattern embroidered on the cuff, a horizontal stripe pattern on the back and colorful flowered tube skirt. The closure pleat of the skirt is set in the front. When they are in full dress, they wear silver hairpin on the head, silver chain and silver collar on the neck, pearl bell on the chest and silver collar on the hand. Wear a black cloth scarf on your head.

On June 14, 2008, the Li costumes declared by Hainan Jinxiu ZhiBei Co., Ltd. were listed in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list with the approval of the State Council. (category: folk customs; No.: Ⅹ - 111)
