[synonyms] job's tears (Erya), Kui job's tears (the book of Materia Medica), Lianyi job's tears (the compendium of Chinese materia medica), Lianxin job's tears (the new materia medica).

[source] it is the green germ of mature seed of Nymphaeaceae. For plant morphology, please refer to "lotus seed" section.

[collection] when lotus seeds are harvested in autumn, they are peeled and dried in the sun.

[medicinal material] dried lotus seed, slightly rod-shaped, 1.2-1.6cm long. The top is pasted green, with two divergences, one long and one short. The apex is reflexed and closely attached to each other. After being soaked in water, it unfolds, and two shield shaped curly young leaves can be seen. Central germ erect, ca. 2 mm long. The basal radicle is yellowish green, slightly cylindrical, 2-4 mm long. It is brittle and easy to break. There are many small holes in the section. No Qi, bitter taste. With a big, green color. Uncooked is better.

It is mainly produced in Hunan, Hubei, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other places.

[chemical constituents] it contains Liensinine, isoliensinine, methylliensinine, neferine, pronephrine, calycosin, methylquatrin and demethyl alkaloid. It also contains luteolin, Hyperoside, rutin and other flavonoids.

[pharmacological action] from Liensinine crystal to quaternary ammonium salt, it has a strong and lasting antihypertensive effect. The results showed that the quaternary ammonium salt of o-methyl Liensinine methyl sulfate had a strong and lasting effect on the vagal ganglion block, but it did not lead to sustained hypotension through the vagal nerve; both spinal cord cat and dog head cross circulation tests indicated that the hypotensive mechanism was mainly peripheral effect. The non crystalline alkaloid nn-9 from Nelumbo nucifera has a strong antihypertensive effect. In anesthetized cats, intravenous injection of 1-2 mg / kg can reduce the original blood pressure level by about 50% and maintain it for 2-3 hours; in dogs, the blood pressure will recover in half an hour; in rabbits, the blood pressure will not decrease. It has fast tolerance. Further experiments showed that the antihypertensive mechanism of this alkaloid was mainly related to the release of histamine and the dilation of peripheral blood vessels, followed by neural factors.
