Perennial herbs. The stem is very short, with many brown sheaths. The perennial roots are mostly yellow white and fleshy. Leaves basal, linear, 60-80 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide. Flowers yellow green, panicle terminal, about 1 m long, inflorescence axis puberulent, bracts small. Capsule oblong ovate. Apex truncate, 3 valves, ca. 2 cm long. Seeds oblong, membranous winged. It blooms in summer.
