[plant morphology] Rosa microcarpa

Deciduous vine shrub, about 5 meters high. Branchlets slender, with curved prickles. Leaflets 3-7, elliptic or ovate lanceolate, 1-6 cm long and 0.7-2 cm wide, apex acuminate or obtuse, base cuneate, rounded, margin serrate, smooth on both sides; petiole thin, 1-2 cm long; stipules pointed, free from petiole, caducous. Flowers white, ca. 2 cm in diam., apex of each collecting branch forming a corymb; sepals 5. Abaxial surface with spiny hairs; petals 5, ovate, alternate with sepals; stamens many, lateral filament long, medial filament short, drug yellow; pistils many, ovary superior, laurel protruding calyx tube, pubescent. Rose fruit small, globose, 5 mm or longer in diameter, red at maturity. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from June to July.

It grows in warm hillside or hilly area. It is distributed in Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Guangxi, etc.

The fruit of this plant (Rosa laevigata) is used for medicinal purposes. The flower is used as rose flower in Jiangsu Province, see "rose flower".

[clinical application] for general traumatic bleeding

The root bark was washed, chopped, dried, milled and sieved, soaked in 20 times water for 24 hours (including heating for 2 hours) and filtered. The filter residue was dried in the sun, then milled and sieved, and sterilized for standby. 56 cases of superficial laceration of extremities, epistaxis and nail bed bleeding after nail removal were treated. Generally, 0.5-1g was placed on the wound, and then sterilized gauze was used for light pressure to achieve hemostatic effect. The shortest hemostasis time was 5 seconds, the longest was 3 minutes, the average was about 30 seconds. Follow up of 55 cases showed no adverse reactions. 51 cases of wounds healed in the first stage without pigmentation, and 4 cases of wounds had mild infection. It was clinically proved that the product had hemostatic and anti-inflammatory effects on body surface trauma bleeding, and also had certain effect on mucosal bleeding (such as epistaxis).
