Herbs perennial, ca. 1. 3 m tall, branched. Rhizome spread, stem square, purple or dark green. Leaves opposite; lanceolate to elliptic lanceolate, 1-6 cm long, 3-17 mm wide, apex acuminate or acute, base rounded or cuneate, margin sparsely serrate, glabrous on both sides, glandular dots below; leaves sessile. Cymes dense into terminal spikes; bracts linear, ciliate; calyx campanulate, outside pubescent, 5-toothed, ciliate; corolla purple or white, corolla tube inner surface without hairy ring, 4-lobed, upper lobe large; stamens 4, extending out of corolla tube; style tip 2-lobed, extending out of corolla. Nutlets ovate, black, puberulent. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit period is from August to September.
