[animal morphology] skink

The total length is about 21 cm. The scales are thin and smooth with 24-26 rows of scales. The snout is round and convex, the nostrils are 1 pair, and the scales behind the nose are absent; the eyes are arranged on both sides of the head, and the distance between the eyes is wide; the tongue is short and slightly forked. The dorsal surface of the body is clay colored, generally with three longitudinal light gray lines; the periphery of the scales is light gray, thus showing reticular markings. The limbs are well developed, with 5 fingers in the forelimb and 5 toes in the hind limb. The tail is long and thin, the end is sharp, easy to break, and can regenerate after breaking.

It lives in the wild grass and crawls quickly. It is distributed in the Yangtze River Basin and the south.

There are many kinds of Skinks, such as blue tailed skinks (south of Yangtze River Valley) and Tongshi skinks (South and central China).

It is salty, cold and poisonous.
