[plant morphology] shilongchu

Perennial herbs, more than 1 meter high, rhizome transverse. Inflorescence with lateral cymes of tea brown, one side cylindric. It is composed of many florets, light green flowers with short stalks; perianth 6, arranged in 2 whorls; stamens 6; ovary superior, style short, stigma 3. Capsule, containing many seeds. It blooms in summer.

It grows in paddy fields and humid areas. Distributed in Guangxi, Zhejiang and other places.

[collection] collected in summer and autumn, dried or fresh.

[chemical composition] it contains 7.14% water, 2.63% wax and fat, 1.52% pectin, 13.54% hemicellulose, 17% lignin, 52.18% cellulose, 1% ash and 13.4% pentosan.

The green stem contained 1.07% ochromophene, 3.04% glucose, 20.09% pentosan and 1.5% methylpentosan.

The leaves contain luteolin-7-glucoside.
