Herbaceous, tufted, 15-20 cm high. The rhizome is creeping, light brown, with fibrous roots at the top. Stem erect, with 4-5 sheath bracts, green, top leaves 3-5, gramineous, dark green above, light green below, base sheath embracing stem. Spike axillary, 1-3 branches, peduncle villous, flowers small, white, perianth piece outside villous.

Sweet and light, cold.

Functions and indications: Nourishing Yin and stomach, promoting fluid production. Treatment of fever, damnification of body fluid, dry mouth, thirst, deficiency of heat after illness, lack of gastric acid.
