Perennial aquatic herbs. Rhizome recumbent, white, with spiral arrangement of black leaf trace. Leaves floating, ovate to broadly ovate, about 8 cm long, 6-8 cm wide, apex rounded, entire, base deeply cordate, thick, smooth on both sides, glabrous, densely dotted below; petiole slender, flat and hollow. Flowers solitary at the top of pedicel; sepals 5, coronoid, yellow, broadly ovate, ca. 2 cm long, persistent; petals numerous, rectangular, apex depressed, ca. 6 mm long; stamens numerous; ovary superior, ovate, style very short, stigma 12 notched. Berry. The seeds are numerous.
