Deciduous trees, up to 25 meters high, diameter at breast height up to 70 cm. The bark is grayish brown, falling off in irregular scales. Old branches gray, branchlets reddish brown, pubescent. It grows in plain, hilly land, mountainous area and sparse forest. It is distributed in Guangxi, Guangdong, Taiwan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan, etc.

The stems and leaves of this plant (Ulmus pumila L.) are also used for medicine.
