[source] it is the dry root of Hedysarum Polybotrys hand. - Mazz.

Collect and dig in spring and autumn, remove fibrous roots and root heads, and dry them in the sun.

[character] the product is cylindrical, with few branches, slightly thick upper end, 10-50cm in length and 0.6-2cm in diameter. The surface is gray reddish brown, with longitudinal wrinkles, transverse long pores and a few root scars. The outer skin is easy to fall off, and the peeling place is light yellow. It is hard and tough, not easy to break. The section is fibrous and powdery. The skin is yellowish white, the wood is yellowish brown, the rays are radial, and the cambium ring is light brown. The taste is slightly sweet and slightly beany.

[identification] cross section: the cork layer is composed of 6-8 rows of cork cells. The cortex was narrow with 2-4 rows of pachykeratocytes on the lateral side. The phloem is wide with cracks on the outside. The fibers are scattered in bundles. The fiber wall is thick and slightly lignified. The rays of phloem often bend on the outside. The cambium forms a ring. Xylem vessels are scattered or 2-3 together, surrounded by wood fibers. The parenchyma cells around the fiber bundles contain calcium oxalate crystals. The powder is yellowish brown. The diameter of the fiber is 5-22 μ m, the wall is thick and slightly lignified. The surrounding cells contain calcium oxalate crystals, forming crystal fibers, and the cell wall containing crystals is uneven thickening. The diameter of calcium oxalate is 7-14 μ m and the length is about 22 μ M. The diameter of vessels with marginal pits was 145 μ M. The starch grains are round or oval in shape, 2-19 μ m in diameter, and the complex grains are composed of 2-8 grains.

[extract] according to the hot leaching method (Appendix x a) under the alcohol soluble extract determination method, 45% ethanol is used as the solvent, not less than 30%.

[processing] remove impurities, separate the size, wash, moisten, slice thick and dry.

Sweet and warm. Return to lung and spleen meridians.

[function and indications] tonifying qi and strengthening exterior, diuresis and detoxification, purulent discharge, restraining sores and generating muscles. It is used for Qi deficiency, weakness, less food, loose stools, middle qi depression, long-term diarrhea, anal prolapse, bloody stool, metrorrhagia, exterior deficiency, self perspiration, Qi deficiency, edema, carbuncle and ulcer, blood deficiency and yellowing, internal heat and thirst, chronic nephritis, proteinuria, diabetes.

[usage and dosage] 9-30g.
