[plant morphology] Stephania mongolica

Evergreen shrub, about 3 m high. Stems erect; sometimes branches drooping and climbing on other trees; branches striped. Leaf thin leathery, elliptic oblong or oblong lanceolate, 4-10 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, apex acuminate, base gradually narrowed, dry edge microwave shaped, bright green, basal vein 3; petiole 5-10 mm long. Flowers unisexual, dioecious; cymose panicles axillary, rarely solitary; male sepals 6, outer ring 3, ca. 1 mm, inner ring 3, ca. 1.3 mm; petals 6, broadly inverted triangular, apically 2-lobed, sometimes lobes 2-lobed; stamens 6, ca. 1 mm, longer than petals; female sepals and petals similar to male; staminodes 6, minute; carpels 3. Drupe oblate, ca. 5 mm.

Born in the shade of the forest. Distributed in Hunan, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.

[chemical constituents] the leaves contain Hengzhou wuyaoding, Hengzhou wuyaoling, Erythrina withering alkaloid, l-carpocarpine, camphor tetrandrine and Magnolia alkaloid. The root and wood contain Hengzhou Oolong Flynn and Hengzhou Oolong amine. The bark and wood contain aconitine, tetrandrine and tetrandrine. It is a mixture of d-n-methyluyao base and laudanine.

[pharmacological action] tetrandrine has curare like effect. It can relax striated muscle in sciatic nerve gastrocnemius muscle and rectus abdominis muscle of rat, and its intensity is less than 1 / 100 of that of curare. In general, the antagonism of nicotine to guinea pig's atrium and bronchus is similar to that of curculine effect. Curare like effect and ganglion blocking effect can be antagonized by neostigmine and other anticholinesterases. It has been suggested as a ganglion blocker and rhabdomyorelaxant for controlled hypotension.

Aconitine also has curare like effect, but it is weak. In addition to the curare like effect, Magnolia alkaloid mainly blocked the ganglion (see "qingmuxiang").
