Succulent perennial herbs. Rhizome thick and woody. Stem erect, 15-40 cm high, cylindrical, glabrous. Leaves alternate, obovate, or oblong, 2.5-5 cm long, 5-12 mm wide, widest above middle, apex slightly rounded, base cuneate, margin near apex dentate, few sessile. Cymes terminal, loose; sepals 5, lanceolate, obtuse; petals 5, orange, lanceolate, acute; stamens 10, almost as long as petals; scales small; pistils 5, free, slightly longer than stamens. Follicles stellate spreading, reddish or brown. Seeds obovate, brown. It blooms in summer.

It grows on mountain rocks or river slopes. It is distributed in the north and middle of China.
