[plant morphology] Melastoma multiflora

Evergreen shrubs, more than 1 meter high. Stem cylindrical, densely covered with brown scaly, spiny hirsute, branched. Leaves opposite, long elliptic to long ovate, 5-10 cm long, 3-6 cm wide, apex long acuminate, base usually cuneate or broadly cuneate, basal veins usually 5, sparse 7, both sides with close coarse hairs. The flowers are big, 3cm in diameter, pink and purplish, often with 3-7 flowers at the top of the branch. Capsule pot shaped or elliptic, about 1.3 cm long, with close coarse hairs outside, fleshy, irregularly dehiscent. Seeds small, mostly black.

Born in the wilderness, hillside, roadside. Distributed in Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.

[pharmacological action] Paeonia multiflora Decoction (1:320) can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and hemolytic streptococcus in vitro; 1:160 can inhibit Shigella flexneri and Salmonella typhi; 1:40 can inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

[clinical application] 1

50% duohuayemudan syrup, 50 ml for adults and 30 ml for children, 3-4 times a day. Some patients were treated with acupoint injection of Andrographis paniculata (Zusanli, Shangjuxu), rehydration and symptomatic treatment. 12 cases of toxic dyspepsia, simple dyspepsia, bacillary dysentery and enteritis were observed. The results showed that 10 cases were cured and 2 cases were improved. Among them, the curative effect on dyspepsia and enteritis is better, and the frequency of defecation after taking medicine is more, which is significantly reduced or returned to normal within 2 days; the curative effect on bacillary dysentery is poor.

② Treatment of respiratory tract infection

The Extract Tablets of Paeonia suffruticosa (each tablet contains 0.42g extract powder), 5 tablets each time, 3 times a day; or 1.0-1.5 two decoctions of dried leaves, 2 times a day. In 17 cases of upper respiratory tract infection, acute bronchitis and pneumonia, 15 cases were cured, 1 case was improved and 1 case was invalid.

③ Treating burns

It seems to have the effects of anti-inflammatory, astringent, keeping the wound dry, and promoting the dissolution and abscission of the eschar, which is conducive to the early skin grafting of the third degree burn.

④ Treatment of cervical erosion

59 cases were treated with 200% Paeonia multiflora ointment. 48 cases were cured and 11 cases were improved. Most of the first degree erosion were cured in 4-7 days, and the second degree erosion were cured in 8-16 days.

⑤ Treatment of skin infections

Paeonia suffruticosa has anti Staphylococcus aureus effect in laboratory. More than 40 cases of furuncle, carbuncle, wound infection, pustule, bedsore and paronychia were treated by oral administration of Extract Tablets and external application of 100% decoction or ointment. The effective rate was more than 90%.
