[plant morphology] Acer Acer

Shrub, about 1 m high, with thick and fat roots and sparse white hairs on branches. Leaves alternate; leaves ovate elliptic, 3-6.5 cm long, 2-4.5 cm wide, apex obtuse or apical, base obtuse, margin irregularly coarsely serrate; no stipules. Flowers small white, unisexual, terminal panicle; male calyx cup-shaped, 4-toothed; petals 4, lanceolate spoon shaped; female flowers apetalous, disk annular; 2 leaflike bracts, white. Fruit compressed, not dehiscent, inserted in middle of pterygoid bracts. 1 seed, flowering in autumn.

Born on hillside, under sparse forest.
