[plant morphology] tiezai

Evergreen shrubs or small trees. Up to 6 meters high. Branchlets and petioles are pubescent. Simple leaves alternate; elliptic to oblong, 10-18 mm long, 6-8 mm wide, obtuse head with cuspidate or concave head, base cuneate, margin serrate except base, upper and lower middle rib base pubescent, lateral veins 3-4 pairs, inconspicuous; petiole 1.5 mm long. Flowers 3-8, leaf axils clustered; unisexual, dioecious; flower diameter 2 mm; stigma 2-4-lobed. Berry small globose, 3-4 mm in diameter. It blooms in spring.

Born in mountains, roadsides and shrubs. It is distributed all over the south of the Yangtze River.

Functions and indications: promoting blood circulation, dispelling wind and regulating dampness. It is used to treat rheumatism, arthralgia, diarrhea, dysentery, blood drenching, fatigue and hemoptysis.

[usage and dosage] oral administration: decocted soup, 0.3-1 Liang; stewed meat or soaked wine.

[selection] 1. Treatment of dysentery: Dahongpao and Agrimonia root respectively. Take it in boiling water.

② Treatment of rheumatism: Dahongpao five money, dafengteng, zhuifengsan three money each, honghema two money, a jin of wine. Take it twice a day, five to one or two dollars each time.

③ Treatment of Honglin: Dahongpao three to five money. Take it in boiling water. (Guizhou folk medicine was selected)

[clinical application] treatment of bacillary dysentery

The leaves were dried in the sun and milled into tablets, each containing 0.5g. Take 2 tablets three times a day for 8-12 days. 81 cases were observed, 74 cases were cured, 3 cases were improved and 4 cases were invalid. Some patients were cured after 3-5 days. No side effects or other toxic reactions were found.
