Tall bamboos, 10-24m high, 5-15cm in diameter, 30cm in internode length, very thin hollow. Sheath ring densely covered with brown bristles; sheath thick leathery, rectangular or long triangular, abaxially with bristles at base; ears slightly equal to each other; tongue margin with sutures; leaf persistent, triangular, with brown black bristles on the front. There are 2-3 thorns in the branches, 6-8 leaves in the branchlets, 2.5-5 cm long leaf sheaths, several gray hairs at the sheath mouth, flat tongue, sometimes bristles at the apex, slender lanceolate leaves, 6-20 cm long, 6-20 mm wide, 1-3 mm long petioles at the base, short hairs on the back, 4-7 pairs of secondary veins, indistinct small transverse veins, rough leaf margin or nearly smooth on one side. Spikelets clustered, dense, with furfural scales at the base, containing 4-12 flowers, yellowish green or light green; glumes sharp, glabrous, lemma ovate and lanceolate, glabrous; palea, with 2 ridges, 3 scales, edge with long white cilia; stamens 6, anthers 4 mm long, the first end of anther septum can be small brush shaped; ovary apex is spiny, style 1, stigma 3, feathery. The shoot period is from May to June. The flowering period is from August to December.

It is usually cultivated on sunny hillside or higher along river.

Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan and other places.
