Kazakh Costume

Kazakh nationality is a nationality characterized by nomadic culture of grassland, and its clothing is easy to ride. Its national clothing is mostly made of sheep skin, fox skin, deer skin, wolf skin and so on, reflecting the life characteristics of mountain grassland nationality.

In history, the vast majority of Kazakh people lived a nomadic life of chasing water and grass, so their costumes had the characteristics of grassland animal husbandry life. Herdsmen mainly use animal fur as raw materials for clothes. Kazakh men like to wear cotton and wool clothes, like to use velvet, gabardine and other clothing materials. Black, brown and other dark colors are often used. In winter, they mainly wear fur coats and leather trousers. Sheep skin is the main material, wolf skin, fox skin or other precious animal skin are also used. In order to get on and off the horse easily, the trousers are sewed with sheepskin to make big crotch trousers, so they are wide, strong and durable. Clothes & Accessories

Men

Men wear a high collar shirt, young people's collars are embroidered with color patterns, a Western vest, a cloth or fur coat, a belt around the waist, a knife for eating, and a pair of large crotch leather pants for riding. There are two kinds of hats for winter, spring, summer and autumn. In winter and spring, the hat is made of fox skin or lamb skin, with two ear fans on the left and right, a long tail fan on the back, and four edges on the top. This kind of hat can keep out the wind, snow and cold. In summer and autumn, the hat is made of lamb wool, with white felt, and the flanging is made of black velveteen. This kind of hat is not only rainproof but also heatstroke proof. Men's shoes and boots are also made of leather.

Women

The dress of Kazakh women is colorful. They like to use white, red, green, light blue satin, calico and woolen fabrics as raw materials to make dresses. Young girls and young women usually wear dresses with embroidered sleeves and multi-layer ruffles at the bottom. Summer jacket or jacket, winter coat, go out to wear cotton coat. Women are most particular about hats and headscarves. Unmarried girls wear a beautiful triangular or square headband in summer, and a hard shell domed hat of flannel in winter, with owl feathers on the top, symbolizing bravery and firmness. As a bride, she wore a kind of peaked hat decorated with embroidery, gold and silver jewelry, and beads hanging in front of her face. A year later, she changed to wear a flower headdress. When she had children, she began to wear a shawl.
