At the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to the motherland and the inauguration ceremony of the sixth government of the Macau Special Administrative Region, President Xi Jinping gave a clear and firm warning.

Since its development in 2009, Hengqin has been endowed with the original intention of promoting moderate and diversified economic development in Macau.

When inspecting Hengqin in 2018, President Xi Jinping pointed out that "the original intention of building Hengqin New Area is to create conditions for the diversified development of Macao's industries" and "we must never forget our original intention, make this place full of innovative development vitality, and promote the moderate diversified development of Macao's economy".

During this inspection of Hengqin, President Xi Jinping not only emphasized once again that the original intention of developing Hengqin is to promote moderate and diversified economic development in Macau, but also pointed out that the purpose of the central government's decision to develop Hengqin includes "facilitating the life and employment of Macau residents," reflecting a high level of concern for the well-being of Macau people.

Never forget your original intention, only then can you stay true. Repeatedly emphasizing and reminding, it is necessary to ensure that the development of Hengqin does not deviate from the track and reality, and always moves forward in the correct direction guided by the central government.

The first priority is development.

To achieve moderate and diversified economic development in Macau, the key is to enhance industrial competitiveness. The overall plan for the construction of the Hengqin Guangdong Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, released in 2021, highlights the development of new industries that promote moderate diversification of the Macao economy, and specifies the need to develop four types of industries: technology research and development and high-end manufacturing, traditional Chinese medicine and other Macao brand industries, cultural tourism, exhibition and trade industries, and modern financial industries.

The outline of the 14th Five Year Plan of the country also clearly states that it supports the cooperation between Guangdong and Macao to jointly build Hengqin, and supports the development of industries such as traditional Chinese medicine research and manufacturing, characteristic finance, high-tech, and exhibition and trade in Macao.

These four types of industries are the diversified development direction of Macao's industries, which not only conforms to Macao's actual development, but also echoes Macao's location conditions, existing industrial foundation, innovation advantages, and achieves differentiated development with other industries in the Greater Bay Area.

Development is for the people's livelihood.

According to President Xi Jinping's request, Hengqin is committed to becoming a "new space that facilitates the life and employment of Macau residents". In Hengqin this time, President Xi Jinping further pointed out the need to "continuously improve the public service and social security system, create a high-quality living environment, and provide convenience for Macao compatriots to live, work, and start businesses here", and continuously strengthen the "heart to heart connection" between Qinqin and Macao residents.

In the past 15 years, Hengqin has grown from a "banana forest with green fields and few farms" to a vibrant entrepreneurial land.

At present, there is still a lot of room for the development of Hengqin's real economy, and its integration with Macau needs to be further strengthened. It is a long way to go to promote the diversified development of Macau's industries and create a livable and business friendly living environment that is similar to Macau.

President Xi Jinping has provided a clear and profound path and goal to promote the construction of Hengqin faster and better. To achieve these goals, we need a work attitude and spirit that never forgets our original intention, takes one step at a time, and works hard for a long time.
