Chengdu University of Information Engineering is a provincial general undergraduate college jointly established by Sichuan Province and China Meteorological Bureau and the key development of Sichuan Province. The school was founded in 1951, formerly the Southwest Air Force Meteorological Cadre Training Brigade of the People's Liberation Army of China; in 1954, it was transformed into a local system, renamed Chengdu Meteorological Cadre School of the Central Meteorological Bureau; in 1956, it was transformed into Chengdu Meteorological School of the Central Meteorological Bureau; in 1978, it was upgraded to a undergraduate college, Chengdu Meteorological College In 2000, the school was transferred from China Meteorological Bureau to Sichuan Province and renamed Chengdu Institute of Information Engineering; in 2001, Sichuan Statistical School, formerly under the National Bureau of Statistics, was integrated as a whole; in 2015, the school was renamed Chengdu University of Information Engineering. The school is one of the first pilot universities of the basic capacity-building engineering in the western part of the country, the first national "excellent engineer education and training plan", the first batch of "first-class discipline construction" universities in Sichuan Province, and the new doctoral degree awarding units in Sichuan Province.

The school strengthens the discipline construction in an all-round way, and the discipline characteristics and advantages become increasingly prominent. The school focuses on information and atmospheric disciplines, features interdisciplinary disciplines, takes engineering, science and management as the main disciplines, and coordinates and integrates the development of engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law and art. At present, there are five provincial key disciplines, 11 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree and 6 types authorized by master's degree, forming three university disciplines groups of atmosphere, information and economic management.

Facing the world's leading edge of science and technology and the country's major needs, the school has carried out scientific research, and its scientific research level and social service capacity have continued to rise. There are 1 post-doctoral research workstation, 12 provincial and ministerial key laboratories (including provincial engineering technology research center, Zheshe key research base, collaborative innovation center), 11 provincial university key laboratories and Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research base. In the past five years, the school has undertaken 171 state-level projects such as the National Science and Technology Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation, and has won 76 research awards at the provincial and ministerial levels and above, including 5 second-class awards for scientific and technological progress.

The school vigorously strengthens the construction of the teaching staff, and the teaching staff is constantly growing. At present, there are more than 1200 full-time teachers, including 420 doctors and 550 senior titles. There are more than 80 full-time teachers, including "one million talents project", young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions from the state, experts with special allowances from the government of the State Council, academic and technological leaders of Sichuan Province, and excellent experts with outstanding contributions from Sichuan Province, and 1 is engaged.
