Historical origin

Located at the intersection of East Chang'an Street and Wangfujing Commercial Street, Beijing Hotel is a famous five-star centuries-old shop, which was built in the early 20th century. In 1900, two Frenchmen opened a small pub in the east of the foreign barracks in Dongjiao Minxiang. They moved to the north of the barracks the following year and officially put up the sign of "Beijing Hotel". In 1903, the hotel was moved to the south entrance of Wangfujing, East Chang'an Street, where it is now located. In 1907, China-France Industrial Bank took over Beijing Hotel and changed it to Limited Company. The French management period was the first glorious period of Beijing Hotel. From the architectural style to the internal facilities, it marked that the hotel became the premier high-end hotel in Beijing. With the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Beijing Hotel was accepted and managed by the Kuomintang Peiping Government, and once became a high-level hostel specially for US troops. Until the liberation of Peiping in 1949, the fate of Beijing Hotel changed. At that time, the Beijing Hotel, which was subordinate to the Bureau of State Council Affairs, became an important place for state affairs and foreign affairs reception in New China and had a fairly high political status.
