From December 1974 to July 1977, he served as a soldier and Deputy monitor of the repair company of the 117 regiment of the engineers of Kunming Military Region, Yunnan Province. From July 1977 to August 1980, he studied mechanical design in Nanjing Engineering College of the PLA.
