When Tao Baili's mother Zhang Manping was young, she was a drama actress who was as famous as Zhao Dan's ex-wife Ye Luyin in the 1940s. More than 160 Chinese and foreign plays have been performed. When performing Cao Yu's famous play thunderstorm, Zhang Manping, who plays four phoenixes, and Tao Jin, who plays Zhou Ping, got married. Later, Tao Jin and Tao Baili, Zhang Manping's eldest daughter, were born in 1936.

The origin of stage name

Tao Baili used to be called Tao Lingyi. Tao Baili was her stage name after she became an artist. Because when Tao Baili's mother Zhang Manping was pregnant with her, she once played a young lady named "Baili" in the drama "King Niu", so the couple had an idea to take this stage name.

The road of performing arts

Tao Baili made her debut in 1940 in the baptism of fire, starring Zhang Ruifang. In 1957, after graduating from the "Shanghai People's art actor training school", Tao Baili was selected by Cheng Yin, a famous director of Beijing Film Studio, to star in her first film debut Shanghai girl. From 1957 to 1965, when the "Cultural Revolution" storm came, Tao Baili only played "Shanghai girl" for eight years. In 1973, Tao Baili starred in Li Xiangjun, a famous patriot in the classical drama peach blossom fan. In the ten years of havoc, Tao Baili was ruthlessly expelled from Fujian dialect troupe. In 1978, Tao Baili appeared in the film "fight shark" directed by her father. After that, she also appeared in the movies "little flower", "nightmare wakes up in the morning", "on this land", "men and women", "burning wedding dress", as well as the TV series "amorous island", "legal adviser", "gambling city dream" and so on.

During her eight years in Fujian Provincial drama troupe, Tao Baili starred in a series of Chinese and foreign dramas adapted from famous works and newly edited. Especially when Tao Baili is going to star in Li Xiangjun, a famous patriot in the classical drama peach blossom fan, she specially runs back to her parents who have been transferred from Shanghai film studio to support Wu Ying in the new factory ahead of time, reports the good news to them, and goes to consult their parents about their "unique skills" in the stage performance of the drama.

In 1978, Tao Baili took part in the film "fighting turtles" directed by her father. The insidious, vicious and cunning scheming of the female spy Kang man on the screen form a strong contrast with the actors themselves. This is her first artistic cooperation with her father. At the same time, her elaborate portrayal of the role of a cool and crafty female spy is also excellent.
