Chang Yan, born in 1932 in Chaocheng, Shandong Province, was formerly vice chairman of Jilin Provincial Federation of literary and art circles, vice chairman of Jilin provincial Film Association, director of China Film Association, and national first-class director.

In 1952, he studied in the Photography Department of Beijing Film Academy, and in 1956, he went to study in democratic Germany, specializing in film photography. In 1948, Chang Yan was an actor in Northeast film studio. In 1950, he played the role of correspondent in the film "defending the fruits of victory". In 1959, he returned to China and served as deputy photographer, photographer, director and deputy director of art studio of Changchun Film Studio. In 1976, he tried to be a feature film director and photographer. In 1979, he successfully directed the sound of the guns of the secret service (also a photographer), and won the excellent film award of the Ministry of culture, Changying Xiaobaihua award and the best Photography Award in 1979. In 1983, he directed the film behind the defendant, which won the first prize of excellent film of the Ministry of culture in 1984. In 1985, the director's film "roadside guitar team" won the best film award and the best director award. he has held ten films and TV programs, among which, the sound of the gun of the secret service bureau, behind the defendant, and roadside guitar team won the excellent film award of the Ministry of culture, the first prize of excellent film award of the Ministry of culture, and the Xiaobaihua excellent film award of the Provincial Film Association. His TV play "Duosi Nianhua" won the flying sky award and each Engineering Award. He has made great contributions to the creation of film art in China. In 1985, he was rated as the second batch of young and middle-aged professionals with outstanding contributions in Jilin Province.
