Xue juexian, formerly known as Xue Zuomei, also known as ping Kai, is a native of shisanfang, Longjiang Town, Shunde City, Guangdong Province. The famous Cantonese Opera master is one of the four heavenly kings. It has the reputation of "king of Cantonese Opera", "omnipotent master" and "omnipotent master". He is good at editing and acting, and has a wide range of acting skills, including Chou Sheng, Xiao Wu, Dan, Jing and mo. It is determined to "integrate the northern and southern operas into a family, combine Chinese and western music as a whole" and create the "Xue school" performance art. After liberation, he served as vice chairman of Guangdong Branch of China Dramatists Association.
Xue juexian was born in a family of Cantonese opera. He was the fifth of the ten brothers. His second sister Xue juefang, his third sister Xue juefei and his ninth brother Xue Jueming were also actors in Cantonese opera. At the age of 13, he studied at St Paul's College in Hong Kong. At the age of 15, he dropped out of school. At the age of 17, he was an apprentice in a leather shop. At the age of 18, he was taught by his brother-in-law Xin Shaohua. In 1923, he joined the life insurance class. Because of his talent, he has already made a seal at the age of 20 and can perform with QianLiJu. In 1925, he set up a non film company in Shanghai to shoot the silent film "Lang die". He met the heroine Tang Xueqing (Tang Disheng's cousin) and married him. When Xue juexian was a child, he often went to see Cantonese Opera with his mother and became a little opera fan. When he was about 10 years old, the Youth Drama company absorbed Tong Jiao and asked him to take part in such dramas as "it's hard to be a man" and "sad words" to expose the darkness of society. In his early years, he studied at St. Paul's College in Hong Kong. During the May 4th movement, he wrote articles under the pseudonym of "Weian youth" to promote patriotism. In 1922, introduced by his brother-in-law Xin Shaohua, he entered the "Huanqiu music" troupe and followed the famous actor Zhu Cibo. He worked hard and had a strong receptivity. He imitated Zhu Cibo's wonderful and beautiful performance and was highly appreciated by Zhu Cibo. At that time, before the performance of Cantonese opera, there was a "new drama of civilization" as usual. Xue juexian took on the task of writing and acting by himself. Later, Zhu Cibo was assassinated and killed in Guangzhou, resulting in the disintegration of the "Huanqiu music" troupe. As a result, Xue juexian was transferred to the "life year" class, and later to the "liyuanle" class, where he played ugly students every day and Xiaosheng at night. When he was 31 years old, he got the name of Dan QianLiJu. He broke the rules and played the trick of "flying whip back" in the play "three earls" and became famous at one stroke. After becoming popular, Xue juexian was threatened by the underworld forces. In 1925, he changed his name to Zhang Fei and organized a "non non film company" in Shanghai. He worked as a manager and director, shooting and starring in the silent film "Lang die". He fell in love with Tang Xueqing, the heroine of the film and the flower of Cantonese opera, and later became a couple. He and Liang Shaojia co starred in the rehearsal "Tang Longguang blocking the way to get married", which was well received by the audience, and became the first Cantonese Opera artist to step into the film world.
In Shanghai period
During his extensive contacts in Shanghai, he found that Peking Opera is highly skilled. He once said to people, "today's dramatic art should keep pace with the times, so as not to be out of date." So he decided to learn Peking Opera. He returned to Hong Kong in 1927 and joined the troupes of "Tianwaitian", "new scene" and "dajiangdong". When he returned to Guangzhou in 1929, when the "Da Luo Tian" troupe was reorganized, he was invited to join the troupe and became the leader of the troupe, renamed "Jue Xian Sheng" troupe. After that, he devoted himself to the reform of Cantonese opera. First of all, he started from the system, explicitly abolished the "teacher restraint system", broke the "red boat" rules, gave the actors full personal freedom, and stopped hawkers from Hawking during the performance, and prohibited personnel from entering and leaving at will, so as to ensure good order. Then, the typhoon was rectified, the outline drama was abandoned, and the phenomena of "bursting belly", "swallowing snake" and "drinking soup" and "changing cushion" were put an end to. The rehearsal was required to be loyal to the stage, and the singing, doing, reading and playing could not be changed. What is more important is his comprehensive innovation of Cantonese opera. In terms of intonation, he learned from Beijing opera's graceful and harmonious singing, absorbed the advantages of Jiangsu and Zhejiang opera's melodies and popular songs of the times, and created a kind of "Xue tune" with correct words, rich charm, strong sense of rhythm, and good at expressing feelings. In terms of musical instruments, he added violin, tulinbi, thursky, guitar Western instruments and Peking Opera gongs and drums to the "wujiatou" Chinese musical instruments to form the "Xue tune" In terms of performance, he integrated the martial arts, posture and dancing skills of Peking Opera, creating the opening scene of the "Northern School". He won the reputation of "king of Cantonese Opera", "master of all trades" and "master of all trades", and was employed as a member of "international society of philosophy, science and art" in London, UK.
Japanese occupation period
When Japan occupied Hong Kong, Xue juexian was very depressed. At the beginning of May, he fled from Hong Kong and arrived in Zhanjiang. He immediately published a statement in the newspaper that he had been detained in Hong Kong by the Japanese aggressors. Now he is leaving Hukou and will do his best to serve the country. The Japanese aggressors were so angry that they sent plainclothes gendarmes to kidnap them. Fortunately, with the help of patriotic sailors, they transferred to the mainland and continued to perform in Yulin, Wuzhou, Guixian, Guilin, Liuzhou and other places of Guangxi in the name of "juexinsheng", donating all their income to the Anti Japanese war expenses except food expenses. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, he lived in Hong Kong because of illness.
In 1954, his family came back to Guangzhou to settle down. He was valued by the Communist Party and loved by the people. He successively served as a member of the Second Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, chairman of the Art Committee of Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Troupe, and vice chairman of Guangzhou Branch of the Chinese Dramatist Association. In addition to his performance, he continued to actively engage in reform work. On the evening of October 31, 1956, when he was performing "flower dye number one scholar red", he suffered from cerebral hemorrhage.
