In 1991, Wen Yan took part in the host competition of Beijing TV station.
In 1992, he joined Beijing TV station and served as TV program host, producer and deputy director of program center;
He has successively served as the host in such columns as "Life Encyclopedia", "happy entertainment city", "true interaction", "the good times of my parents" and other large programs as well as Beijing TV Spring Festival Gala and Beijing Olympic bid party.

In 2011, Wen Yan founded and began to host the program "the beautiful times of our parents" for respecting the elderly. In the same year, Wen Yan planned and participated in the activity of "filial piety and healthy walking" held in Beijing Olympic Forest Park, appealing to the society to care for the elderly and carry forward family filial piety.
As the spokesman of the column, Wenyan is praised as "ambassador of love" by the common people. At the most critical moment of fighting SARS in 2003, I had a face-to-face talk with the convalescent and participated in the live broadcast of fighting SARS for 7 days. Interviewed Zhang Jin, the first person to recover from SARS. Wen Yan's in-depth interview has given many people great confidence to overcome SARS. Wen Yan was rated as an advanced individual in the fight against SARS.
