Early experience

Chen Guofu, a Taichung native born in 1958, did not receive any formal education related to movies. His father sold leather shoes for a living and believed that "reading is useless". Neither Chen Guofu nor his three elder sisters went to college. His parents wanted his son to inherit his father's career, but Chen Guofu did not want to.

After only one semester in high school, he dropped out and went to a private high school where he didn't need any marks. He chose mechanical drawing, which has nothing to do with movies. Acting experience

In 1980, he began his career as a film critic at the invitation of the underground magazine film magazine.
