Former site of the Church of the holy word

Built in 1899, it was built by Bishop an Zhitai at the intersection of Qufu road and Zhejiang Road in Qingdao, Shandong Province. The Catholic mission was set up at the top of the nearest hill to Qianhai in the city center. The south facade of the two-story building extends along Berlin Road, and the West facade is close to ruetpold Road, forming a rectangular guild hall. From the choice of this large area of land close to the Chinese business district, we can judge the status of Catholicism in Qingdao at that time. The two entrances of the church are located on the roadside of the south wing and the West Wing respectively. The south entrance of the church needs to enter through the external stone terrace, which is the main entrance of the Church of STYRE. The center of the whole building is essentially at the intersection of the two roads, where the smooth exterior wall of the guild hall suddenly protrudes, integrating a small castle like tower with a spire. There is a clear distinction between the upper and lower floors of the building. The first floor is bare brick wall, and the second floor is white. The exterior wall of the hall facing the cathedral is decorated with Renaissance style octagonal windows.
