In 1959, Zhao Zhongxiang entered Beijing TV station, the predecessor of CCTV, as an announcer. He was the second TV announcer and the first male announcer in China.

In 1979, Zhao Zhongxiang interviewed US President Carter during Deng Xiaoping's visit to the United States, becoming the first reporter of the people's Republic of China to enter the White House to interview US president.
