Introduction to Meihu (South Shanxi Meihu)
Applicant: Linfen City, Shanxi Province
The original name of Meihu is "Mihu". Jinnan is one of the main popular areas in Meihu. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, folk songs and tunes of Meihu were widely spread among the people on both sides of the Yellow River. The early popular tunes, such as Embroidered Purse, silver new silk and crying for five nights, were accompanied by silk strings and then became Qingqu, which was sung by one or more people. The artists made a living by doing this, and developed into a storytelling and rap stand with a single song and a certain plot. After joining the social fire performance, they opened up a dramatic way. During the reign of Qing Dynasty, there were amateur troupes organized by Duan Yaogong of Jiezhou in southern Shanxi and folk artists of Lingbao in Henan. Their plays included "crying for a bachelor's wife" and "exploring a lover". From the end of the reign of Emperor Guangxu to the beginning of the Republic of China, professional classes were formed, including sun Fusheng class in Xinjiang, Gao Shiwei class in Xiaxian County, and Meihu class opened by Zhao Liancheng in Jiezhou.
At the same time, they absorb the gongs and drums of Puzhou opera, and learn from the flowing water board, intermediate board and rolling white of Puzhou opera, so as to make up for the defect that it is not easy to express the impassioned emotion while keeping their own singing euphemistic and melodious.
