Mangkang Sanxian dance is a kind of folk dance in Tibet. It originated in Dashu village, quzika Township, Mangkang County, Changdu Prefecture, Tibet, and is widely spread in the local area. According to research, Mangkang three string dance has a history of four or five hundred years.
Mangkang's three stringed dance is accompanied by a pure wooden three stringed instrument. The performance is not limited by the number of people and venue. Men and women sing and dance with music. During the performance, men and women are separated in half, men stand in line with each other and lead the crowd to dance, sometimes round, sometimes scattered and sometimes around; folk songs with "harmonic" lyrics can also be improvised; men and women sing one song and one harmony, which is subject to the music rhythm of men playing strings. The whole dance movement is bold and smooth, the lyrics are clear and beautiful, the music is from slow and melodious to cheerful and warm, which is very characteristic. It embodies the good wishes of celebrating the harvest, avoiding disasters and praying for good luck.
The ancient magic Mangkang Sanxian dance has a long history, unique form and rich content, showing distinct national style and strong plateau characteristics. It has an important influence on the border of Tibet, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces and the southeast of Tibet Autonomous Region, and has research value in ethnology and folklore. At present, the traditional Mangkang three string dance is under the impact of the commercial tide, and it is in a survival dilemma and on the verge of extinction, which is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
