Introduction to meat ring:
Applicant: Lichuan City, Hubei Province
Roulianxiang is a local dance of ethnic minorities, which is mainly popular in duting, Wangying and Nanping of Lichuan City, Hubei Province. It is based on the old "mud Shinto" evolved from the bottom of society. Before the founding of new China, beggars painted mud on their bare bodies, danced and patted along the streets and doors, forcing their owners to give alms, commonly known as "mud Shinto". In the 1980s, the staff of Lichuan cultural center and Wu Xiufu, the inheritor of "mud Shinto", etc., excavated and processed the traditional "mud Shinto", combined with the melody of "Lotus falling", supplemented by the idea of gongs and drums, to deduce today's group fitness dance - meat ring. It is characterized by a unique body performance. In the process of performance, it hits the forehead, shoulder, face, arm, elbow, waist, leg and other parts with the palm of the hand, making rhythmic sound, so it is called "meat ring".
Most of the performances are performed by men, and there is no limit to the size of the venue. Its performance style is vivid and humorous, free and lively, and its movement is round and soft, natural and harmonious. The dancer has to change the body tilt angle with the transfer of hitting parts. The main movements of roulianxiang include "Yangge step", "hand piercing and leg sucking jump", "shaking step turning around the head", "doubles", "ten rings", "seven rings", "four rings" and "three rings". At the beginning of the performance, there was no aria or musical instrument accompaniment. The performers made up and sang by themselves, accompanied by the sound of their tongue and fingers, so as to add to the happy atmosphere of the dance. In the process of inheritance and development, roulianxiang has been blended with Yangko, zhulianxiang and other folk dance movements, and corresponding with the melody of "Lotus falling".
Tujia roulianxiang, together with Lichuan dengge and Lichuan Xiaoqu, is known as the "three wonders" of Lichuan national culture. Roulianxiang, with its unique performance form, has become the unique dance of Tujia people, which is of great value to the study of Tujia people's cultural tradition.
Due to the extremely high demand for action in meat ring performance, there are not many practitioners, which makes this precious folk art inheritance chain too fragile. Effective measures should be taken to strengthen the protection.
