ShiPing Yi People's cigarette box dance, also known as "tiaoxian" and "Longzao", is popular in Yi villages in Shiping County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It became mature in Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and reached its peak in Qing Dynasty and Republic of China.

Yi People's cigarette box dance consists of two parts: sinuous dance and zaxian dance, forming two styles and various genres in mountain area and dam area. There are as many as 220 dance routines. At present, only 117 dance routines have been collected, including 62 sinuous dance and 55 zaxian dance. The dance forms include duet dance, trio dance and group dance. The dancers hold the old round wooden cigarette box filled with fire, grass and smoke. With the accompaniment of four strings, they play at the bottom of the box to make a dance. The rhythm is bright and the atmosphere is warm. ShiPing Yi People's cigarette box dance has distinct personality and various skills. The famous skills include "immortal bridging", "ant moving", "hanging gold hook upside down" and so on. This kind of distinctive folk dance can not only keep fit, but also be enjoyable. Its movements are smooth and natural, and it is very artistic. It is deeply loved by the masses and spread all over the urban and rural areas. Now it has developed into a comprehensive dance art integrating song, dance, music and competition.

As one of the most distinctive dances of the Yi people in southern Yunnan, cigarette box dance shows the Yi People's view of history, morality, values and way of thinking with its unique dance vocabulary, which has high research value in the fields of ethnology, folklore and sociology. Its rich and varied dance routines and profound dance connotation show that Yi People's outstanding ability of dance creation and artistic understanding.
