Luochuan drum is one of the famous "three drums" (chest drum, waist drum and drum) in Yan'an, which is mainly spread in huangzhang, Yongxiang, Jiuxian and other villages in Luochuan County, Shaanxi Province. Shaanxi dialect calls "Tiao Tiao" as "ban". This dance is characterized by Tiao Tiao, so it is called "Ban Gu".
Luochuan was a place contested by Qin, Jin and Wei during the Warring States period. It is said that Banggu evolved from the military array, and then spread to the present day by combining it with the local folk activities of offering sacrifices and praying for rain. Huang Zhangxiang has known for six generations the inheritors of drum performance.
The performers of Luochuan Banggu are all male. During the performance, they wear battle scarves on their heads, battle flags on their backs, battle skirts on their waists, bandages on their legs, or carry drums, or gongs and cymbals (cymbals). When beating drums, gongs and cymbals, their basic movements include single jump, double jump, slow step, twisting and swinging, etc. the field pictures mainly include "white horse's mane", "scorpion's tail twisting", "single horse's attack", "four walls encircling", "character combination", etc. Performers in the dance, jump, jump to make a variety of shapes, in the sound of gongs and drums in the left rush right, fighting, such as the pro battle, action rough, bold, full of force.
In 1996, Luochuan County was named "the hometown of Chinese folk art" by the Ministry of culture.
