Introduction to Dragon Dance
Applicant: Yunmeng County, Hubei Province
Sanjie dragon is popular in Wuluo Town, Yunmeng County. It is named because its dancing dragon is composed of three sections: dragon head, dragon body and dragon tail, and dances with dozens of drummers. In the past, the performance of three Dragon Festival was to pray for good weather, good luck and peace, so it was also called "Taiping lamp". During the performance, an old dragon and two little dragons form a group. Each dragon is composed of three people dancing dragon head, dragon body and dragon tail respectively; around the dragon is a drum dance team composed of 99 people, dancing with them to symbolize thunder by jumping and drumming, praying for the dragon's blessing.
"The dragon head bites its tail" and turns the Dragon into a circle, which is the unique feature of the dance. Sometimes the Dragon rolled on the ground, and sometimes jumped on the bench and stone to perform. The dancer's upper body movement is round. He holds the handle close to the body with both hands and forms an arc up and down. He circles the "∞" shape repeatedly to make it round and smooth. Especially in the bench and stone roll on the performance is very difficult, requiring skilled dancers, with tacit understanding.
The drummer holds a double-sided round drum with a handle in his left hand and a drum stick in his right hand, beating the drum while jumping. When performing, we should pay attention to jumping high, playing loud and roaring happily.
The three Dragon Festival integrates arts and crafts, music, dance and other folk arts, and is a unique program in traditional dragon dance.
