Kazakh Folk songs are mainly spread in eight counties and two cities directly under Ili Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and three Kazakh autonomous counties including Tacheng, Altay, Mulei, Balikun and Aksai of Gansu Province. A small number of Kazakh people live in Urumqi, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture and Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture.
Kazakh people are mostly engaged in animal husbandry, and they have lived a nomadic life of chasing water and grass for thousands of years. It has strong, unique and colorful characteristics of grassland culture. The folk proverb "song and horse are the two wings of Kazakh people" vividly shows that folk song is an indispensable intimate partner in Kazakh people's life.
Kazakh Folk song singing is an indispensable way of folk entertainment in all kinds of festivals and family gatherings.
