Uygur drum music has a long history, it is a unique instrumental music of Uygur nationality, widely spread in Xinjiang Uygur inhabited areas. Uyghur drum music mostly plays melody with one sunayi, and beats festival with three pairs of nagala and one dongbak. It can not only play twelve sets of Yili Uygur drumming music, but also play Uygur Muqam fragments and Uygur song and dance music.
There are many kinds of drumming music, and the repertoire spread in different Uygur areas is often different from each other, such as Yili Uygur drumming Music Suite and Turpan Uygur wedding drumming Music Suite. There are many sources of Uyghur advocacy music, some from folk songs, some from folk song and dance, and some from folk rap and Muqam classical music. For example, in Luopu County of Hotan area, the drummer music is composed of three nagras, and the rhythm is unique, which is obviously different from other places.
Uygur drum music is mainly used for mass self entertainment dance accompaniment. It plays an extremely important role in all kinds of festival celebrations and life rituals of Uygur, and has high technical and cultural research value. Its melody is smooth and undulating, and its rhythm is complex and changeable. It is good at creating a warm and cheerful festive atmosphere. The drumbeat music of Turpan area can play the melody of Turpan Muqam from beginning to end, which enjoys a great reputation in Xinjiang. At present, Xinjiang Uygur drum music has not been systematically and comprehensively collected. With the death of the older generation of drummers, some classes have stopped their activities. In this situation, it is necessary to carry out comprehensive planning and take effective measures to ensure the smooth inheritance of this ancient folk music style.
