The South China sea passage is the route knowledge and practice of South China Sea Navigation summarized by Hainan people in the process of practice for thousands of years. According to historical records, as early as the 18th century, the residents along the South China Sea had been engaged in the development of aquatic resources in the South China Sea. In the Han Dynasty, China opened the "maritime Silk Road" in the South China Sea. Wenchang City, Hainan Province has Qinglan port, an important port for navigation in the South China Sea. The residents along the coast of Hainan Island summed up their navigation experience and wrote the book of South China Sea route, which was handed down in the form of manuscripts. In addition, "Geng Lu Zhuan" is also popular among the people.

Up to now, the South China Sea waterway is still playing an important role as a guide for Hainan fishermen to go to sea.
