A brief introduction to Taige (Haicang centipede Pavilion)
Applicant: Haicang District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province
Haicang centipede Pavilion is a kind of performance form popular in festival folk activities in Haicang District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province.
In the old days, it was a masquerade parade to welcome the gods, but now it is one of the forms of folk street walking activities. Widely spread in Xiamen, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou and other areas of Southern Fujian and Taiwan, Kinmen.
In the south of Fujian Province, Taige is also known as "Yige". It disguises itself as a story and sings Nanyin. Centipede Pavilion is a form of Art Pavilion, also known as "ZhuangGe", "Longge" and "Fengge", which has been recorded in "Quanzhou Fu Zhi · custom" by Qianlong of Qing Dynasty. Centipede Pavilion recreation activities are concentrated in Dongyu village, Haicang District.
"Centipede Pavilion" is composed of more than ten to hundreds of boards. The wooden board is 1.5m to 2m long and 40cm to 50cm wide, which is called "Ge Peng"; the "Ge Peng" is connected by movable tenons to form a string, which is like a centipede, so it is called "centipede Pavilion". The pavilion is decorated in various colors, with a high stool on which a child sits, dressed up as a character in a drama story. During the performance, the centipede array was pushed by human shoulder or wheel, moving slowly, with firecrackers and drumming.
The project is of great significance to inherit the fine tradition of the Chinese nation, enhance the cohesion of the Chinese nation and promote the reunification of the motherland.
