Applicant: Banan District, Chongqing
Mudong folk song is a kind of folk song sung by the people in Mudong Town, Banan District, Chongqing. Its origin can be traced back to the "Bayu song and dance" in ancient times, "xialiba people" in the Warring States period, "Bazi eulogy" in the Han Dynasty, "Zhuzhi" in the Tang Dynasty, and evolved into Mudong folk song in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The main body of Mudong folk song is the music called Yangko. Helai is only popular in Mudong and its surrounding areas. It is a rare variety of Chinese folk songs. Helai has rich regional characteristics and rich tunes. There are mainly Gaoqiang Helai, aiqiang Helai, pingqiang Helai, huahelai and lianbaju. These styles include several sub styles, such as Gaoqiang Helai, Yiya Helai, Luogu, Yiyi, Yaya, Siping, ohha, wuo, Youha, etc.
The important category of Mudong folk song is er Diao. The style and characteristics of the songs are quite similar to the folk songs of Zhuzhi in Bayu since Tang Dynasty, which is the "direct inheritance" of Zhuzhi songs in Mudong area. The songs of Mudong mountain songs include "it's easy to sing, but it's hard to open the mouth", "the rain is coming into the deep mountain", "Mudong new weather", "go to the market" and so on.
Mudong folk songs also have many styles, such as labor songs, custom songs, performance songs and so on. There are thousands of repertoire, lots of folk singers. Among the first batch of 40 folk singers named by Chongqing in 1991, Mudong accounted for 37. Among them, four first-class singers who could sing more than 500 songs were all in Mudong. Mudong also wrote a monograph "Mudong folk song" with more than 300000 words, which was published in December 2005. In 1990, Mudong area was named "hometown of folk songs" by Chongqing, and in 1999, Mudong folk songs were named "excellent folk art of Bayu".
Due to the change of production and life style, most of the folk songs have lost the foundation of nourishment and prosperity, the aging and death of the older generation of singers, the inheritance of the folk songs in Mudong is broken, and the folk songs in Mudong are facing a critical situation. Rescuing and protecting Mudong folk songs can not only enrich Bayu folk song art, but also promote the enrichment and development of Chinese folk song art.
