Yanmen ancient architecture construction skills are distributed in Dai County, a famous historical and cultural city in northern Shanxi and its surrounding areas, and the famous Yanmen pass is in this area. At present, there are many wooden structures of Liao Dynasty preserved in northern Shanxi, which are in the same line with the style of Tang Dynasty architecture, such as large eaves, flat and heavy corners, large and solid wood members, etc. The characteristics and construction techniques of these buildings have a profound impact on the construction of traditional wood structure buildings in northern Shanxi.

Daixian Yang's carpenter family is the inheritor of the traditional wood structure construction techniques in this area. Their ancestors were the carpenters who were with the army when the Yang family general guarded the three passes in the Southern Song Dynasty. They specialized in making weapons, fortresses, gates, gate towers, martial temples, bell and drum towers, etc. their traditional wood construction techniques have been handed down from generation to generation. In Daixian County, the Confucian temple and Bianjing building, the oldest existing traditional wooden structures built by Yang's carpenter family, have survived more than 500 years of wind and rain, earthquakes and other natural disasters, but the large wooden structure is still in good condition, which shows its exquisite workmanship.

There are only 15 disciples of the Yang family in Yanmen. Due to the impact of modern architectural art and interior decoration art, the market demand for traditional wood structure buildings is gradually shrinking. Yang Guiting's disciples often have to rely on other ways to make a living. The inheritance of the traditional wood structure construction techniques with local characteristics mastered by the Yang family is facing a crisis.
