Introduction to tie dyeing technology (Zigong tie dyeing technology)
Applicant: Zigong City, Sichuan Province
The tie dyeing technique of Bai nationality in Zigong City, Sichuan Province is popular in Bashu area. It originated in Qin and Han Dynasties and was widely used in Tang Dynasty. It is called "Jiao Xie". Zigong tie dyeing was first made of pure cotton. Up to now, all kinds of pure natural fabrics such as cotton, hemp, silk, satin and leather can be made.
Based on ancient traditional crafts, Zigong tie dyeing has experienced the continuous exploration and summary of generations of folk craftsmen, sorting out dozens of tie dyeing techniques, such as twisting, sewing, binding, tying, pinching, folding, binding and clipping, forming a unique set of production techniques. Dyeing has also evolved from simple single color dip dyeing to multiple color dip dyeing. The tie dyed products are colorful, durable, and the patterns radiate from the center to the surrounding, showing a strange artistic effect. Zigong tie dye uses needle instead of pen and tie dye to make geometric patterns and freehand brushwork patterns, including characters, animals, flowers and birds, calligraphy, appear on tie dye products. The technique is superb and has local characteristics.
With the change of society, the mechanized production of textile printing has been popularized, which has a great impact on the manual printing and dyeing industry. In this case, Zigong tie dyeing technology gradually lost its survival and development space, a large number of artists decreased, production practice stagnated, and is now in an endangered state. If it is not rescued in time, it is bound to die out quickly.
