Brief introduction of lantern (Quanzhou lantern)
Applicant: Quanzhou City, Fujian Province
Quanzhou lantern originated in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the song and Yuan Dynasties, and has continued to this day. It is mainly distributed in Licheng District and Fengze District of Quanzhou City, extending to Jinjiang City, Hui'an County, Nan'an county and Yongchun County. Quanzhou lantern has a long history, with distinctive local characteristics, is the representative of Southern lantern.
Quanzhou lantern is famous for its unique paper carving, needling and silk inlaying techniques. When making the traditional Quanzhou lantern, the artists first use paper twists to bind the bamboo strips into the framework of the lantern, then spray water on the cut paper or silk cloth and stick it on the framework, and then stick the lace, draw the pattern and hang the silk tassel to form the lantern.
The craft of "paper-cut lamp" appeared later. The pioneer was Li Yaobao (1892-1983), a master of paper-cut in Quanzhou. All the patterns of the lantern were designed by the manufacturer himself and carved on the cardboard with a knife. The paper-cut lamp does not need a skeleton, but is made of carved cardboard. Later, Li Yaobao inlaid the hollowed out patterns with glass filaments to create the most beautiful paper-cut filament lamp. In 1978, artist Cai Binghan created "needling boneless lamp". The design of this kind of lamp is all made of steel needles on the drawing paper, and the light source comes out from the pinhole, which is crystal clear and dazzling. Now the main inheritors of Quanzhou lantern are Chen Minghua, Li zhuqin, Wu zuzan, Xu qianshen, Chen Changtu, Chen Lixia, etc. At present, the production and distribution area of Quanzhou lantern, which once flourished, is obviously reduced, and the number of employees is sharply reduced. The production of lantern has become a "poor craft", and the time of sales is strong. Under this situation, the production process of Quanzhou lantern is simplified, and the skills are lost, which is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
