Jinhua Daoqing is popular in Jinhua City and surrounding areas of Zhejiang Province. It was formed in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, and has a history of at least 300 years.
Jinhua Daoqing originated in Yiwu City. It was originally a kind of "Jingyun" in the Taoist temple. Later, it absorbed other tunes and Qupai music, and evolved into "xinjingyun" in folk preaching, also known as "Daoge". The Southern Song Dynasty began to use the Yugu Daoqing and zhipai as accompaniment instruments in the singing of "xinjingyun", which has been widely spread since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the period of the Republic of China, the Daoqing of Yiwu was very mature, and Luo Zhanglin and other famous scholars appeared.
In Jinhua Daoqing performance, Jinhua dialect is used to sing with one mouth. There are several ways to sing with white belts, white lines in singing and flat lines in singing. Most of its tones adopt the mode of Zheng, with complete structure, beginning and ending, and various rhythms, which can be tight, slow or moderate. The aria can be divided into "flat tune", "sad tune" and "crying tune", in which the flat tune has a gentle range and a steady rhythm, which is mostly used to narrate the story; the sad tune is low and desolate, like crying, which is mostly used to describe the characters' painful experience; the crying tune imitates women's crying, which is mainly used to strengthen the characters' sad mood and exaggerate the tragic atmosphere. Jinhua Daoqing is accompanied by a bamboo tube (also known as "fishing drum") and two pieces of bamboo. Percussion music is used as the prelude to lead to the aria. In addition, the accompaniment can also express the pause of sentence, connect through the door, and present the melody of looping back and forth.
Jinhua Daoqing has 425 traditional repertoires, such as "the story of gold", "the story of welcoming gold", "the story of golden melon", "the story of Yintai" and "the story of hupai". The repertoire covers the evolution of society, politics, economy and folk customs in Jinhua and its surrounding areas over the past 300 years, which is of great historical and cultural research value. At present, the older generation of Daoqing artists are getting older, and there is no successor. Some Daoqing songs have been lost, so the protection and rescue work is imminent.
