Jiaodong drum has been popular in the coastal areas of Jiaodong Peninsula for nearly 200 years. In its early stage, it was mostly named after the location of the artists, so it has many names, such as "Penglai Dagu", "Qixia Dagu", "Rongcheng Dagu". As the artists are blind, it is also known as "blind tune".
Jiaodong Dagu is divided into North, East and South roads, and the North Road has the greatest influence. North Road is popular in Penglai, Feixian, Muping, Fushan, Yantai and other places, among which the most representative school is Liang school, whose singing is high pitched and straight, circuitous and tactful, and is good at using the changes of singing to express various characters; East Road is popular in Wendeng, Rongcheng, Weihai, Rushan and other places, mainly including Peng school, represented by Peng Runzhi, a blind artist in Rongcheng, who sings with simple melody and pays attention to rhyme South Road is popular in Haiyang, Laiyang, Jimo, Yexian, Qixia and other places. In the process of spreading, the green school represented by Xu shanghou appeared, with fluent and beautiful singing and rich local opera flavor, which is deeply loved by the local people.
Jiaodong Dagu's singing style belongs to the type changing style, which has many forms, such as starting board, throwing board, flat board, coloratura, sad tune, Allegro, reverse tune Allegro, counting board, falling board, scattered board and burning paper tune. The organization of the board cavity is various, and the structure often changes with the development of the story. Among them, starting board is only used at the beginning of singing, flat board is basically used for narration, and other kinds of board cavity can be connected freely through falling board.
Jiaodong drum has a rich traditional repertoire, including more than 60 short stories such as Xiangzi shangshou and Zhuge Liang beating dog, more than 10 medium works such as Zijin bracelet and bee story, and more than 10 long works such as Huyang Hebing and Tianmen formation. Jiaodong drum is closely related to the life of the people in the popular areas, with prominent local characteristics and high research value of folk custom and regional culture. This precious folk drum music form has no successors and is on the verge of extinction, which is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
