Suzhou farce is a kind of local drama which shows the people's behavior and humor in Wu. Founded in 1950, Suzhou farce troupe has accumulated hundreds of farce dramas and skits through nearly 60 years of development. In the 1950s, a number of excellent traditional operas, such as "Suzhou Liangliang", "Qian dutiao Qiuyu" and "little Shandong to Shanghai", were well-known in the art world. From the 1960s to the 1980s, the films "satisfied or not", "xiaodeyuelou" and "the 30th floor" appeared on the screen. In the new era, large-scale farces such as "happy yellow hat", "one, two, three, starting", "Youth Track", "shaking hands with smile and tomorrow" and "Gu Jiamu Ma" have won the "Wenhua Award" twice, the "top ten high-quality plays" of the national stage art project twice, the "excellent plays" award of the Chinese Drama Festival three times, and the spiritual civilization award of the Central Propaganda Department five times "Five one project award" of the Ministry of culture and the first "excellent reserved Drama Award" of the Ministry of culture were awarded; the sketches "love tonight", "more love tonight" and "going home for Chinese New Year" respectively won the "Wenhua new program Award" of the Ministry of culture and the gold medal of the national sketch competition.

The modern Suzhou farce, represented by Zhang huan'er, a famous farce magnate, is well-known in the farce world for its unique style of cold faced farce. It has formed a school of Suzhou farce with "emphasis on plot structure, characterization, cool humor, sweet taste, smooth and reasonable expression in drama". Fang Xiaoxiao, ye Xiazhen and other older artists are well-known in the comic world. Nowadays, the Su School of farce has established a system of inheritance dominated by Gu Xiang, Zhang Keqin, Lu Chensheng, Ji Yutang, Gu Yuee, fan Lina and other famous farce artists.
