Brief introduction to Heyang Dance Drama:

Heyang Tiaoxi, also known as tiaodiao, tiaodiaoxi, tiaodiaoxi or luoguzaxi, is an ancient local opera spread along the Yellow River. It belongs to the nature of social drama. When performing, there is no singing or string music, only gongs, drums, cymbals and suona are accompanied by the performers. The performers complete the "singing" and "white" tasks with the help of "speaking" and "singing", and communicate with the audience through more mechanical ancient folk dance movements.

There are two kinds of dance performance: yatiao (square dance) and onstage dance. Before the opening of yatiao, gongs and drums are used to "beat Dan Zi" to summon the audience; when performing on the stage, "chunguan" comes on the stage and improvises his own humorous lines, either to show local attractions, or to describe farmers' bitterness and happiness, or to accuse officials and gentry of oppression, or to praise the performance lineup, followed by martial arts drama, which is commonly known as "beat Tai Zi". After the beginning of the play, Wu Jiao goes on the stage first, and needs to step all over the four corners of the stage, step on 56 drums, and then sit in the tent or go up; Wen Jiao also has the requirement of "stepping on the four corners". The basic skills of dance are "going up", "stepping on the field" and "running on the field", which have a set of fixed performance procedures. Most of them are based on the stories of "Three Kingdoms", "Water Margin", "journey to the west", "Fengshen" and "Yang Jiajiang". There are also "wentiao" plays such as "agate ring". The lines of the play are concise, mostly in the form of four sentences and seven characters.

Tiaoxi has unique facial makeup, unique Qupai and simple performance. Due to the differences of derivative environment, customs and inheritors, it has formed different performing schools. In the study of the development history of Chinese opera, the history of dance and the history of folk customs, dance has an important reference value.
