Introduction to shadow play (Sichuan shadow play)

Sichuan shadow play mainly includes local shadow play, Guang shadow play (also known as "Weinan shadow play") and Langzhong shadow play. Among them, Langzhong shadow play is the most distinctive.

Langzhong shadow play is popular in 36 counties and cities in Nanchong, Guang'an and other areas with Langzhong City as the center, covering an area of 530000 square kilometers. This kind of shadow play was created by Wang wenkun's family, a folk shadow play master in Langzhong. Wang's ancestors combined the advantages of local shadow play and wide shadow play to create a new type of Langzhong shadow play. Langzhong shadow puppet is skillful in carving techniques, smooth and delicate lines, decent hollowing out, well-balanced structure, beautiful shape, oval face, irregular head, hat and beard. Most of the costumes are decorated with traditional patterns popular in northern Sichuan, with exquisite appearance and strong local characteristics. Langzhong shadow play mainly borrows from the five major tunes of Sichuan Opera. In addition, it also adopts popular folk songs, tunes, Buddhist and Taoist music.

Sichuan shadow play fully reflects the customs, social features and humanistic traditions of Sichuan area, and has important folklore and art research value.
