Wujiang Economic and Technological Development Zone is subordinate to Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It was established in 1992 and was promoted to national economic and Technological Development Zone on November 11, 2010. It covers a total area of 176 square kilometers and has developed an area of 83 square kilometers. Wujiang Economic and Technological Development Zone has a unique location advantage. It is located in the core of the Yangtze River Delta, 54 kilometers away from Hongqiao Airport in the East, one hour's drive away from Hangzhou in the south, Taihu Lake in the West and Wuzhong District of Suzhou in the north. Wujiang development zone is surrounded by the densest expressway network in China. Suzhou Ring Expressway, Suzhou Jiahang Expressway and Shanghai Jiangsu Zhejiang Expressway pass through the zone. In 2011, Wujiang development zone was rated as "China's top ten dynamic development zones" by renmin.com. In 2012, Wujiang development zone was rated as "national new industrialization industry demonstration base" by MIIT, and "Jiangsu advanced development zone" by Jiangsu provincial Party committee and government.
At present, there are more than 1000 enterprises of various types in the Development Zone, among which more than 50 enterprises with sales exceeding US $100 million. 70% of the foreign-funded enterprises in the zone are engaged in IT industry, and the self supporting rate has reached more than 90%. Wujiang Economic Development Zone belongs to Wujiang City, one of the former top ten counties and cities in China. Now it belongs to Wujiang District of Suzhou city. It is located in the golden hinterland of the triangle. It is adjacent to the international metropolis Shanghai in the East, one hour's drive away from Hongqiao Airport. It is close to the developed and rich Hangjiahu Plain in the south, Taihu Lake, one of China's five freshwater lakes in the west, and the ancient city Suzhou in the north. Wujiang Economic Development Zone, founded in 1993, is one of the first batch of 13 provincial development zones in Jiangsu Province.
