It is adjacent to Dashan hometown in the East, Taohuatu town in Shuangta District in the south, zhaoduba town in Longcheng District in the West and Longtan Township in the north. The area is 143.88 square kilometers, and as of 2018, the registered residence population was 17551.

In the Qing Dynasty, Rehe was located in Chaoyang County. During the puppet Manchu period, it belonged to halnao village office, xiguanying village office and Taohuatu Village Office of tumute Middle Banner in Jinzhou province. In 1958, the commune was established. In 1984, the village was changed. As of June 2020, halnao township has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages.
