Maoshandong township is located in the northwest of Wengniute Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. With an area of 525.89 square kilometers and 14107 people (2017). It has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages in Maoshan, Fangshengou, bugetu, laisanzhan, goumen, Shaoguo, Jingjia, Youfang, Heishui and coolitou. "Maoshan" is a Mongolian translation, which means "shallow well with poor water source". In 1949, it was the Eastern District of Maoshan. In 1956, it was established as a township. In 1958, it was changed into a commune. In 1984, it was changed into a township. In 1996, it covers an area of 543 square kilometers and has a population of 21000. It has jurisdiction over 21 administrative villages in Maoshan, hanjiawanzi, canglinba, Heishui, wulansu, Sanshui, hujiaotu, Dachuan, mangnongyingzi, wujiawanzi, bugetu, majiayingzi, Youfang, yangshujing, kulitu, laisanzhan, ganmianzigou, goumen, Shaoguo, Jingjia and Sanjia.
